Elko is the most prominent town in northeast Nevada. First inhabited in 1868, Elko's population is less than 20,000 people. Elko Justice Court and
Elko Municipal Court

Elko Justice Court and Elko Municipal Court are both located in the basement of the Elko County Courthouse at 571 Idaho Street, Elko, NV 89801.

Elko Municipal Court handles all Nevada misdemeanor cases involving crimes that allegedly took place within the city's incorporated limits. Municipal Court hears every stage of these cases from the initial bringing of charges until the final resolution.

Meanwhile, Elko Justice Court handles all Nevada misdemeanor cases concerning misdemeanors that allegedly occurred in Elko's unincorporated areas. The court also hears all Nevada felony cases concerning alleged felonies that took place anywhere in Elko. However, felony cases that are not dismissed or settled by the case's Nevada preliminary hearing stage are "bound over" (transferred) to Elko's Fourth Judicial District Court.
