People arrested for committing Nevada misdemeanors within Las Vegas's city limits may be booked at the City of Las Vegas Detention Center, also called the Las Vegas Detention Center and Las Vegas City Jail. This is not to be mistaken with the larger Clark County Detention Center (CCDC), which is where people are taken if they're arrested and charged for gross misdemeanors or felonies anywhere in Las Vegas.

Locating a person in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail
To determine whether someone is currently in custody at the Las Vegas Detention Center, you can do an online search through the Las Vegas City Jail inmate search page.
If you don't have access to a computer, you may call Las Vegas City Jail at (702) 229-6099 during daytime hours and ask them to conduct an inmate search.
How to bail out a person in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail
You may post bail twenty-four hours a day at the Las Vegas City Jail Bail window, located at 3200 Stewart Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101. Call (702) 229-6460 to determine what form of payment is acceptable.
Male inmates will be released at the corner of 1st Street and Lewis.
Female inmates are also released at the corner of 1st Street and Lewis but only during daylight hours. At night, female inmates are released at City Hall, located at 400 Stewart Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101.
Out of safety concerns, Las Vegas Detention Center does not make public when inmates will be released.
Phoning a person in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail
As with most jails, you may not place phone calls to persons in custody at the Las Vegas Detention Center. Persons in custody, however, may make collect calls out to land lines.

Visiting a person in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail
In order to visit a person in custody at City of Las Vegas Detention Center, the inmate has to submit your name and date of birth to jail administrators, who then determine whether you're eligible to visit the jail. This visitor-screening process may take several days, and you will have to produce a photo I.D to secure a visit. You may call (702) 229-6099 to check whether you've been approved for visitation to Las Vegas City Jail.
You may be denied visitation to Las Vegas City Jail for any of the following reasons:
- You're wearing revealing or improper attire (so be sure to dress conservatively).
- You're under the influence of alcohol or illegal substances.
- You're a convicted felon.
- You've been incarcerated at the Detention Center within the last six (6) months.
- You have outstanding warrants.
- You're on active probation, parole or any form of conditional release.
- You're deemed to be a threat to the person in custody or the jail's security
If you are approved to visit a person in custody at the Las Vegas Detention Center, your visiting time depends on where the inmate is housed in the jail:
For persons in custody housed in Unit 3, Unit 4, or Unit 7 (males only), visiting hours are on Saturdays, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
For persons in custody housed in Unit 1, Unit 5, or Unit 6, visiting hours are on Sundays, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.
For persons in custody housed in Unit 2, visiting hours are on Sundays, from 7:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m.
For persons in custody housed in Unit 7 (females only), visiting hours are on Sundays, from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
All visits at Las Vegas City Jail are conducted through glass and with a telephone. You should arrive a half hour early to check in. You can usually find street parking at the blue visitation gate between Mojave and Pecos on Stewart Ave.

Unlike many jails, you may not mail photographs to a person in custody at the City of Las Vegas Detention Center. Nor may you send packages, or else they will be returned.
Persons in custody at Las Vegas Detention Center may receive books and magazines only if they're mailed directly from the publisher. There is also a library in the jail inmates may use.
Transferring funds to a person in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail
You may put money on an inmate's books at any time. The City of Las Vegas Detention Center accepts money orders or cashiers checks made payable to the "City of Las Vegas Inmate Trust Fund." The jail does not accept cash or personal checks.
To put money on an inmate's books, place the cashiers check or money order in an envelope with the inmate's full booking name and I.D. number. Then leave it in the drop box located in front of the administration building at 3300 Stewart Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89101.

You can also bring the cashiers check or money order to the Las Vegas City Jail business office, located at 3300 Stewart Avenue, during business hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday through Friday (excluding holidays).
Shopping privileges at the Las Vegas City Jail
The Las Vegas City Jail has a commissary, which is like a general store, where persons in custody may buy various items using the money on their books. The commissary sells toiletries, snack foods and stationary.
Inmates are given purchase forms to the Las Vegas City Jail commissary on Mondays, and the items are delivered by Friday or Saturday. (Money put on an inmate's books after 7:30 a.m. on Friday can't be used for the following Monday's commissary purchase.)
Releasing property and vehicles belonging to persons in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail.
In order for inmate property to be released to an outside person or for bail purposes, a property release form must be completed. The person in custody can ask an officer for the form, or an outside person can request an inmate fill out the form at the bail window (located at 3200 Stewart Ave.).
Property may be released on Mondays through Friday, from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m., and from 11:00 p.m. to 1:00 am.
Medical and other personal needs at the Las Vegas City Jail
The City of Las Vegas Detention Center offers medical care, psychiatric care, and group counseling. There are also weekly religious services.
Persons in custody at the Las Vegas City Jail may be assigned jobs to help teach them work and social skills for when they leave the jail. Some of these community work programs include the Outside Work Crew and the Beautification Project, which help maintain the cleanliness of city parks and streets.
In addition, inmates may be assigned to the Family and Youth Services Community Trustee Crew to help with food preparation, service and sanitation at the Clark County Family and Youth Services kitchen. Inmates can also work at the Las Vegas City Jail's cafeteria.
During their stay, Las Vegas City Jail inmates are provided with orange jumpsuits to wear.
