Las Vegas police confiscate 500+ animals

Sunday morning local law enforcement confiscated more than 550 animals from a Las Vegas home located at the 2700 block of North Gateway Road, near Lamb Boulevard and Cheyenne Avenue. Officials claim the animals were kept in deplorable conditions. Red Rock Search and Rescue officials helped load the animals onto trucks that afternoon.

Most of the animals recovered were birds, including 400 pigeons and 150 roosters and hens. There were also 13 horses, four turtles and two guinea pigs. Criminal charges for the owner(s) of the animals are pending.

"I've seen cases where loving and ethical animal-owners got into trouble by over-zealous animal abuse officials who acted on a mean-spirited tip," Las Vegas criminal defense attorney Michael Becker said after hearing about the case. "What one person deems deplorable may very well meet or even exceed the normal standards that animal owners are held to by law."
