It is possible. But a criminal defense attorney is often necessary to aggressively negotiate with the prosecutor in order to achieve a case dismissal or significant charge reduction.
Everyone facing criminal charges is strongly encouraged to hire an experienced criminal defense attorney. Public defenders do not have the time or resources to thoroughly investigate every case. But private Elko criminal defense attorneys painstakingly search for every hole in the state’s evidence in order to convince prosecutors to drop or lessen the charges. And the reality is that prosecutors give better plea bargains to defendants with attorneys.
