The jail accepts bail paid with cash or through a bondsman. Bondsmen usually charge 10% to 15% percent of the bail amount, and they pay the rest to the court. But after the case ends and the court returns the bail money, bondsmen keep the 10% to 15% as their payment.

3. Can I phone a person in custody?

No, Archeluta inmates may not receive phone calls. But inmates are given the opportunity to make outgoing collect calls or calls using a pre-paid phone account.

Visitors are required to bring their ID and to wear attire that is not revealing or provocative.

5. How do I put money on a person in custody's books at the Archuleta County Jail?

10. Other information

Currently, the jail consists of two four-person holding cells. Most of the facility has been closed since April of 2015 due to flooding. This is why many of the inmates are housed at La Plata Jail in Durango. This is an unsustainable system, however; so far Archuleta county has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to transport inmates between the jails.[1]

The Archuleta Courthouse has also been forced to move some operations to La Plata because of air-quality problems in the building.[2] Many of the employees who worked at the Archuleta Courthouse have reported headaches, eye problems, upper respiratory tract irritation, and fatigue.[3]
