On Friday 36-year old West Career and Technical Academy math teacher Renee Rine was arrested on child sex charges. She is accused of:
- being a school employee engaging in a sexual conduct with a pupil 16 or older
- lewdness with a child who is 14 or 15
- first-degree attempted kidnapping to engage in sex
- contact with a minor or mentally-ill person
- child abuse
Rine worked at the magnet high school since August 2015. Officials at West Tech had reported to the police that she was facing allegations of inappropriate conduct with a student. She is the ninth Clark County School District employee to be arrested this school year.
"I've seen cases where teachers and professors were falsely accused of sex crimes by angry students or vengeful co-workers," commented Las Vegas criminal defense attorney Michael Becker. "Or sometimes, the student is troubled and makes a false allegation when no crime has been committed. It is important to gather all the facts before jumping to conclusions."
