Man in Las Vegas arrested for allegedly smothering infant

26-year-old Cash D. Ballew faces a murder charge for allegedly smothering his baby yesterday in downtown Las Vegas. He is currently incarcerated without bail at the Clark County Detention Center. Ballew also has a felony conviction from more than a decade ago.

"There is nothing worse than a child's death," said Las Vegas criminal defense attorney Michael Becker upon learning of this case. "After an infant dies, the cops frequently jump to the conclusion there was foul play. But in many cases, it was an unfortunate accident...

"I defended a man who was a caring parent but who was accused of abusing his child by shaking it. The truth is that the child had an unfortunate accident that was nobody's fault. After two trials, my client was acquitted."
