Las Vegas father suspected of killing his baby arrested in Chicago

Yesterday U.S. marshals in Chicago arrested 31-year old Eric Chu for allegedly murdering his 10-month-old child in Las Vegas. On Wednesday the infant died at University Medical Center from an apparent battery with life-threatening injuries. Police claim the baby had not been breathing when emergency responders first saw the child the day before. Chu is expected to be extradited to the Clark County Detention Center

"Nothing is more heartbreaking than the death of a child," said Las Vegas criminal defense attorney Michael Becker upon hearing of this case. "When a child is severely injured or dies in the care of a parent, police understandably jump to the conclusion that the parent caused it. But that is not always what happened...

"I had a case where a loving parent was accused of causing substantial injuries to his child by shaking it. In fact, the child's injuries were the result of an accident that could have happened to anybody. It took two trials, but my client was ultimately acquitted."
