A veteran cop of 17 years, Las Vegas Defense Group case manager David Kohlmeier now uses his experience behind the badge to guide our clients through the criminal court process and to help our attorneys build a defense against police allegations. Having firsthand knowledge of how law enforcement conducts investigations, traffic stops, and arrests, David is in a prime position to identify where the cops in our clients' cases may have veered from proper procedures, committed misconduct, or flat-out lied. And oftentimes, police mistakes are sufficient to get a defendant's criminal charges dismissed.
Hailing from Queens, New York, David attended Long Island University: CW Post Campus with a major in Public Administration. He was then sworn in as a cop with the New York City Police Department. Following three years as a patrol officer in Brooklyn, he earned the position of Metropolitan Transportation Authority NYS police officer. He even assisted with the 9/11 recovery by helping to transport cranes and lighting equipment down to Ground Zero. David then moved out to Clark County, where he was sworn into the Henderson Police Department.
During his 13-year tenure as a Henderson patrol officer and community policing officer, David worked on numerous community outreach programs: These include Crime-Free Multi-Housing, Neighborhood Watch Program, D.A.R.E. and D.R.E.A.M.S., where he taught over a thousand kids. David was appointed to the Nevada Attorney Generals Domestic Violence Committee in which he worked on changing laws and state policies in the interest of all parties, and he was appointed as Vice President of the Henderson Police Officers Association in which he fought for bargaining rights and better work conditions. He received several honors such as commendable action awards, a Life Saving Award, and the prestigious Officer of the Year award from Crime Stoppers of Nevada in 2008. An alumnus of Leadership Henderson and Leadership Nevada, David also set up the Henderson Police Officer's Charitable Organization to aid local residents in need.
Now retired from law enforcement, David continues to help people, this time by holding our clients' hands through the often confusing and daunting ordeal of being prosecuted. David believes,
"Everyone makes mistakes because we are only human. Even police officers can make mistakes on and off duty. Everyone deserves representation in order for their version of their story to be heard."
David is committed to helping anyone that needs representation. As someone who has been on the other side of police investigations, former officer David Kohlmeier is in the invaluable position of assisting our litigation team in pointing out police errors in our clients' cases, which in turn increases the likelihood of reduced charges, dismissed cases, and full acquittals. David's door and phone are open and on 24/7.
